Application Process

Graduate students applying for admission and claiming in-state residency for tuition purposes must visit the NC Residency Determination Service (RDS) website for more information and to apply. Once at the NC RDS website, select “Complete Residency Determination”, create an account and complete the RDS process. Upon completion, you will be supplied with a 10-digit Residency Certification Number (RCN) that is unique to you. Please enter your RCN in the space provided in the application for admission.

Online Admission Application

The Graduate Admissions team provides centralized application processing, recruitment, and new student onboarding services for all graduate programs except medicine and dentistry. While the Graduate School provides a framework of admission policy and practice, admission decisions are made at the program level. Please make sure that you add the gradschool@ecu.edu email account to your email address book to ensure you are receiving important communication from them. Upon submission of your online application, a Graduate Application Specialist will be assigned to your application file. You will receive communication from your specialist regarding application requirements on occasion via email, text or phone. You may check the status of your application by logging into your ECU application dashboard and reviewing your requirement checklist.

Paying the Application Fee

You are required to submit a $75 non-refundable application fee electronically, using either a debit or credit card only, prior to submission of your application form. Your application will not be processed until the fee is received. Please know that application fees are non-refundable.

ECU offers some limited application fee waivers for individuals meeting specific criterion (e.g., full-time permanent ECU employees, McNair Scholars, Fulbright Graduate Scholars, etc). To request a fee waiver, you must complete an application form to 99% and answer ‘Yes’ to the qualifying question within the Application Fee & Waiver Scenarios section of the application. The application will then provide more specific directions to request the appropriate fee waiver.

All applications for admission to an Arthur Graduate School of Business degree or certificate program require the submission of a current resume. The resume is not used as a writing sample.

Letters of recommendation are not required. Likewise, a written statement of purpose it not a component of the application process. Prior professional business experience is not required.

Test Scores or Test Waiver

Applicants to a Arthur Graduate School of Business graduate degree program must submit official GMAT or GRE test scores or have an approved entrance exam waiver. GRE scores will be converted to GMAT scores using ETS’s GRE Business School Comparison Tool to determine a student’s eligibility for admission. Our Entrance Exam page reviews this requirement in more detail.

Students applying for Arthur Graduate School of Business certificate programs are not required to submit test scores.

Our admissions process is very straightforward. Because there are no designated cohorts, we do not have a maximum number of students we admit each semester. An interview is NOT required for admission to any Arthur Graduate School of Business degree or certificate program.

We process completed applications as they are received rather than holding applications for a certain decision date, which is known as rolling admissions. This means you will know your admission decision much sooner!

You do not have to upload all items (required checklist) before submitting and paying for your online application – in fact, you are encouraged to submit the application and then work on the remaining components, just remember that we need to receive everything before the application deadline.

Previously admitted students should visit our Returning Students page for information on how to reapply.

Additional Information

The ECU Graduate School website and the ECU Graduate Catalog are excellent resources for you and provide information about academic programs, admissions, policies and procedures, and other important details that will assist you before, during, and after the admission process. Please refer to these sites for program-specific requirements and deadlines.

All graduate admission applications must be submitted to the ECU Graduate School, the University-wide office that coordinates all graduate applications. You are responsible for the submission and receipt of all application materials.

When your application is complete, the application packet is then sent to the Arthur Graduate School of Business office for evaluation. Applicants are admitted to the MBA, MS-STH, MSA and certificate programs only upon the issuance of a formal letter of admission by the Graduate School.

The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Applicants for a Arthur Graduate School of Business degree program should NOT pay the application fee for their graduate admissions application until they receive their test scores and have confirmation from a Arthur Graduate School of Business advisor that the scores are acceptable, or their GMAT waiver application has been approved.

Review our Information Packet for more details.
